Janus was the Roman god of beginnings, gates, transitions, time, duality, doorways, passages, and ending. Unlike most Roman gods, he did not have a counterpart in Greek mythology.
He is believed to the a brother to Saturn and Ops, and thus uncle of Jupiter, Neptune, Pluto, Juno, Ceres and Vesta.
